abstract

An extension education model program was designed for a farm owner. The design was developed to serve the public in the following ways: Creating awareness about agriculture in a small farm setting; develop an awareness among farmers about potential alternatives in practice; and to demonstrate practices that have potential for starting small-scale farm operations.
The program is designed to serve the public in educating about agriculture in a small farm setting including potential alternatives in practice, small-scale practices, and start up options. The four subject areas of focus in this project are Dairy Replacements/Beef, Sheep/Goats, Organic Gardening, Cheese Production. Programs are organized in Goals/Objectives, Priority Audience, Expected Impact format. Technical materials are referenced for use by the parties considering the plans.

Alternatives to selling farmland for other than agriculture use are described. Creating awareness about agriculture in a small farm setting and profitable alternatives and start up possibilities for demonstrating practices which may be effective in keeping agriculture land productive.
An internship was supervised at the farm pver the summer of 07. The intern helped with further planning and involvement with extension programs in the county.

The project outline and supporting materials have been well received by the landowner who has interest in property being used as a demonstration farm. The 07 summer intern expanded supporting materials and plans.
