issue being addressed
To investigate the health benefits of major fruits and vegetables in the American diet. and to promote consumption of fresh apples (a major NY state fruit crop).
to all consumers and promote a healthy lifestyle.
to all consumers and promote a healthy lifestyle.
response
Americans today have major chronic diseases, such as being overweight and obese, diabetes, cancers, cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer`s disease, and others. This is due mainly to diet. A number of health benefits of fruits and vegetables are reported and this research provides information on the additional health benefits of apples; a potential benefit against Alzheime`s disease.
impact assessment
Based on our laboratory study, apples showed a strong activity against oxidative stress-induced neuronal cell damage that is directly associated with Alzheimer`s disease. When this preliminary result of apple`s chemopreventive effect is confirmed by human clinical study, we may able to reduce or prevent the risk of Alzheimer`s disease among the aged population.
