Sea Grant Coastal Climate Extension Program

2007 Impact statement

abstract

Sea Grant Programs in all 31 coastal states, in this century, will be impacted by major climate change issues within their coastal regions. I have been working at the national level to identify extension and outreach programming that can be carried out by state Sea Grant Programs to deal with coastal climate change. To date a national Climate Extension workshop was carried out at the Coastal Services Center in South Carolina and numerous extension efforts have been initiated nationally.

issue being addressed

I was contacted by the Climate Program Office within NOAA and given funding to initiate this national climate extension effort. The issue is of major national and international importance. The populations to be impacted by this effort are those who live in, or use, the U.S. Coastal region.

response

I, and other Sea Grant colleagues, were able to bring together a number of resources from NOAA, including the National Weather Service, to put on a three day training for Sea Grant Specialists throughout the nation. A number of Sea Grant led Extension efforts on Climate Extension, have been inititated since this workshop.

impact assessment

At this time the impacts have not been measured, but this will be done in the near future. The impacts of this effort will be the nations coastal regions.
