abstract

Assisting the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) in protecting, restoring, conserving, and sustaining the natural resources in the Hudson River Estuary through its Action Agenda.

issue being addressed

The strategy for implementing the program is through partnerships with federal and local governments, universities, and the private sector, as well as property owners. The Hudson River was designated in 1998 as an American Heritage River and has a central place in our culture and history.

response

The Water Resources Institute (WRI) continues to assist staff in reaching goals set out in the Action Agenda, focusing on tributary strategies and education throughout the watershed area.

impact assessment

Faculty work together with staff to assist in meeting the goals of the Action Agenda. Staff continue to increase the number of partners assisting in protecting the Hudson River. WRI assists with education and outreach, and serves as an interface to principals in the Hudson River Valley on emerging issues such as climate change, as well as through its competitive grants program.
