1) Mechanism of cell transformation by the Dbl oncogene. 2) Functions of vitamin E Binding Proteins

2005 Impact statement

abstract

1) To understand the mechanisms regulating proto-oncogenes from the DBL family. 2) To understand how tocopherol transfer protein functions in vitamin E homeostasis.

issue being addressed

research into the biology of cancer and into and adequate nutrition impacts all people.

response

1) We have discovered novel modes of regulation of the Dbl proto-oncogene, involving interactions with the Hsc70 chaperone. 2) We have charechterized the biochemical impact of heritable mutations in the tocopherol transfer protein gene that lead to vitamin E defficiency.

impact assessment

Our understanding of basic biological problems has increased.
